This issue has been causing me problems too.
I have done lots of testing and monitoring around it, including three full factory resets / clean installs of the latest up-to-date version of Android Jelly Bean for Xperia L (build no. 15.0.2.A.17). I've determined that I can prevent the issue by not installing/using the Spotify music app. This is bothersome for me as I rely on Spotify for my mobile music consumption.
When I install and use Spotify, the Available Device Memory space starts to reduce. It then only takes about a week for the Available memory to reach close to 0mb, with the phone error messages then appearing about not having enough memory to install updates or carry out other functions.
It's now about two or three weeks since I performed (via Sony Update on Windows) a third clean OS install because of this problem and at the moment the phone is working smoothly and its memory is staying more or less constant (without Spotify installed). I will keep monitoring device memory usage for a few more days and then install Spotify one last time. If the memory problem then re-occurs, I'll contact Spotify support (not a pleasant prospect as I've found that whenever I contact their support people they don't seem to properly read my emails but instead offer less-than-helpful pre-packaged "solutions"). I imagine they will suggest (amongst other things) another factory reset / clean install. I will probably carry that out but am not hopeful that the problem will be resolved.
There is a 22-page thread on the Xperia Care support forums about this issue with over 200 posts and more than 5000 views. If anyone else is having this problem, please read the thread and log a "Me Too" about it on the thread's first post so that Sony is kept aware of the issue and works harder on a solution. As a new XDA dev user I can't post a link to the forum thread, so search for "Device memory full in xperia L" on the Xperia Care support forums. You will need to register with Xperia Care before being able to post or log a "Me Too".
